RSC vs Cochrane Old Boys at RSC Kiara, 17th April 2021 (Saturday)

It’s been a long time since we last played a friendly game at our Padang.

So, it was our pleasure to host Cochrane Old Boys (half of the players are RSC members anyways!) on 17th April, Saturday evening.

23 players signed up for a game which promised many goals but produced none!

Good to see some new faces such as Brian Anthony, bringing some youthfulness to our line up and bringing the average age of our team down to 45. We certainly need more younger players!

Comeback performances from Anand, Niki, Vic Suppiah, St John Davies and Jay Ooi (playing for our opponent) proved that nothing is impossible if you put your mind to it! Hopefully they score a goal next time!

Fantastic performances from the goalkeepers on both sides, combined with goal-shy forwards kept the score 0-0 till the end, despite an ambitious reverse stick hit by Jay Ooi (playing for Cochrane).

Baldwin, Kapaay, Sukhdev - superb defensive play keeping the Cochrane forwards at bay! And also keeping your ‘powerful’ hits at bay as well!

But, we all agree that the man-of the match goes to Sara! Thanks for running! .... yes, a running player is a very much welcome attribute appreciated by the RSC team. Keep it up!

All in all, both teams enjoyed the game and everyone had a good run on the Padang. And in the end, good sportsmanship and friendship were the real winners!

Well done RSC and Cochrane for putting up a great show. Thank you Simon and Avinder for organising the game!

Convenor and Treasurer discussing the finer points of the game strategy before the game eg. how many jugs of beer shall we have after the game.

Our ageing line-up, still standing before the game.

Thanks Audrey for keeping our bags safe as we battle it out on the field. ( Thanks Bernard for bringing her to our game. Very useful indeed. )

Dark skies looming over us, but the weather held up for the 90mins we needed to play the game.

Can't wait for the game to start.

Vic and his pre-game yoga routine.

Bernard doing his half-time stretching routine.

Simon with his on-field Zumba moves...Convenor trying his best to inspire the players, I guess!

Lesson #1 from Kapaay - Keep your foot firmly rooted and keep your eye on the ball when taking a hit.

Lesson #2 from James Andrew - Shift your body weight from the back leg to the front leg (notice the knee guard on left leg) to increase power of your hits.

Lesson #3 from Baldwin - Make sure your backswing is at least over your shoulder (and over your head, if possible) for maximum momentum and impact on the ball.

Jay Ooi playing like a man possessed....for the opposition team!

Vicky vs Raymond - 2 ex-internationals from different eras testing each other out.

Everyone watching and wondering what Kapaay would do next.

Kapaay kneeling for a prayer, as Simon takes a hit.

Man-of-the-Match Sara running off with the ball with the whole field open ahead of him.

Good save keeper!

He even had time for a photo mid-game!

It takes a special guy to be a hockey keeper!

Our youngster, Brian taking on veteran ex-international Raymond Tio.

Our veteran, Ray Xavier taking on...eerr...no one! Watched keenly by Dato Poon.

Sara and Kapaay looking decidedly exhausted from all the running.

St.John Davies taking on everyone as he tries to make a penetrating hit into the opposition's D.

Niki Poon looking for a way past the Cochrane defence.

Gana dictating play in midfield again....but this time, for the opposition.

Good to see you Alex. But the umbrella just wont cut it! Bring your hockey stick next time!

Can buy number this weekend already!

And in the end....it's the friendship that matters most!
