Grass Hockey at Kiara

The weather was just nice on the evening of 18 January 2014, to have a lovely game of hockey at our Kiara Annexe ground. It has been awhile since we last played in our ground. The turnout was fantastic and our RSC home team were playing with our opponents, who also had some of our own players.

It was an interesting game which ended with RSC winning by 5-4 . The game was close, and it was great playing on grass, compared to frequent visit to the astroturf. The opposing team led by Viki comprised of soccer section members and surprisingly, they were able to play even after a long long lay off. Siva and Dato Poon also brought their sons to play and the boys played better than their dads.

The committee has decided to have this once a month and would hope to see more of section members
participating in the coming months.

KLHA Division 4A... RSC's journey thus far

The first KLHA Division 4A league game in 2014 was played on 20 January 2014, against Telekom. It was our 7th game of the season after having closed 2013 with 3 wins and 3 losses.
The obviously younger, fitter and faster Telekom players started out at a furious pace and put RSC on the back foot. But some great defensive play by Mohan and Bobby kept us in the game up till halftime, keeping the score at 0-0.

As the 2nd half wore on, the tired bodies and legs were beginning to show and Telekom finally put in a field goal to take the lead.
We thought it was game over for us!
Then suddenly Mohan flicked a beautiful clearance that woke a dreamy Mohinder into a prance, taking the ball into the opposing half and struck a brilliant pass to Colin.
Colin then skipped, slipped, bounced, danced and by some crazy luck (skill?) took the ball pass at least 6 Telekom defenders into the right- hand corner, and put a hard cross into the 'D'.
Lo and behold, Vincent was there (he's usually late by a couple of seconds) by the goalie to fumble a sweeping 'volley' over the keeper's pads to put us even at 1-1.
The old men had woken up! (Yes, we did a check after the game and confirmed that we only had 3 players in the team below the age of 50 for this game!)
Another counterattack then saw Nicky Poon put us in the lead at 2-1, and we just hung on for the final whistle.
Notable mentions were Charles and KC, who put their foot and body in the line of fire to block several penalty corner attempts, and our goalkeeper Muru for some brilliant saves, including a stinger that came off his helmet!
We have 2 more matches to play on 4 and 19 February to close this season.
Wish us luck!
