International Sports Club of Indonesia (ISCI), Jakarta (26-27 May 2012)

by Siva Subramaniam

ISCI 2012 held on 26th & 27th May at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium, Jakarta, Indonesia.

This annual event in Jakarta had RSC sending a team comprising of Oommen Koshy (Team Manager), St John Davies (Captain), Siva Subramaniam, Rajpal Singh (Mango), Maninder Singh (Minnie), I.Vickneswaran (Viki), Viki Boy, Kenny, Nigel, Kevin, Nasir and our Indonesian goalie Bian.

The RSC team before the game...
First day was played in the scorching heat and the day’s results ended as follow;
vs Barkarites Club (Singapore) Won 2-0
Goals by St.John and Kenny

vs Jakarta (Indonesia) Won 2-0
Goals by St.John and Kenny

vs Regulars (Indonesia) Won 1-0
Goal by St.John
After the game...
Day 2:
vs Politeknik (Malaysia) Lost 1-0

vs Exiles (Singapore) Won 2-0
Goals by Kenny and Oommen

Quarterfinal :
vs Host Team ISCI Lost 1-0 (Extra Time)

A bitter lost indeed due to a dubious call for a penalty stroke which led to ISCI the host scoring against stand in Goalie St.John. After the initial 15 minute play , each team is required to have their goalie and 1 player taken out thus leaving 6 players to continue the next 5 minutes of play. The first team to score wins the game.

Done for the day....
This has ended our interest in the tournament but we stayed on till the end and watched our local Politeknik boys lifting the title.

Our participation would not stop here as we will be back next year as usual . We like to thank the host ISCI for their fantastic hospitality and looking forward to seeing them at our tournament in mid July.

To the players it was indeed great playing together and good management as usual from Oommen ( off field) and St.John Davies (on field) . Well done !!
DONE!!

RSC JHDP - 1st Training Session (26 May 2012)

On this cloudy day, we welcomed almost 70 children, boy and girls, to the Kiara Sports Annexe for the 1st training session of the RSC Junior Hockey Development Program (JHDP). It was indeed a very encouraging turnout, with an equal number of parents turning up to support their kids.
Getting organised
Our 2 coaches, Prakash and Prakash, were on hand to lead the training sessions, with Jay Ooi taking on the most challenging group (below 6 year olds!). 7 other club members showed their support by helping out in the training sessions as well, namely James Sia, Charles Lim, Tham, Dato Poon and wife, Judith and Sanjay Saigal.

Going down to their level!
It was a successful 1st session and the children, as well as their parents, enjoyed themselves immensely (judging from their response at the end of the session).

7th DATO DR S.S. Cheema Trophy 2012 – 12th May Kelab Aman KL

This 8 a-side men veteran’s tournament saw RSC team comprising of Dato Poon Fook Loke, Bobby Ho (Captain), Convenor James Sia (Keeper), James Andrew, Siva Subramaniam and Jay Ooi taking to the field with a player short in this annual event held at Club Aman recently.
Glad to be back RSC team!
Even with a player short, the team believed that we could have end up as champions and this was evident when we held Liquorice Club to 0-0 despite equal attempts made by both teams at each end. Good goalkeeping by James Sia and steady backline of James Andrew and Bobby Ho halted the numerous attacks from Liquorice players . Maestro Dato Poon was all over the field and constantly feeding to Jay and Siva on the attack .
Tiring morning...
Good feeling after the first game but the following game with still 1 man short and no reserves at all, we were facing the Penang Sikh Union(PSU) team and were quickly down 1-0 within a few minutes thus destined for a trashing. Dato Poon immediately equalized and it was game on. But the toll had already taken on us and we finally succumbed to a 4-1 loss at the end.
Old friends!
The team was always hoping 1 or 2 of players who had agreed to come would somehow turn up but we went into our 3rd and final game with 1 man short. MUGS or Universiti Malaya Old Boys took hold of this advantage and the score line ended at 6-0.

Despite the outcome of the matches, we the team that played, had achieved what we had set out at the start of the game …that is to enjoy ourselves and build back our friendship with the Club Aman members. This was evident when Dato Dr Cheema who is also our Club member himself, along with Colonel Manjit ensured we had a good time afterward .We would like to thank Club Aman for being a gracious host and hope to see them at our tournament in July.
Some words from the Organiser...
Last but not the least, need to add that Bobby was playing with a fractured finger, Dato Poon was the first to arrive at Club Aman despite being at Malacca the night before and our Convenor James Sia was struggling to cope with all the aches after the many saves he did. For me this is due to one thing only …. PASSION FOR THE GAME !

Oh yes ..just one final one to add. We had the pleasure of having Amarjit Singh as our guest player and we the team would like to thank him sincerely for supporting our team. Without him we would have been down to 6 players only .Oh my!............
Finally up and awake...

MAKAN TRIP 2 - SEKINCHAN

1 May 2012 - Labour Day! But nothing laborious about this day though, as the eating crew was out again... This time, they made it to Sekinchan, with a crew of 2 James' (James Sia and James Andrew), Alex Voon and 2 hungry kids. No photos of the eating crew, but here's a few photos of the food! Apparently the organiser was distracted by a certain yellow-shirt event that took place in KL city over the weekend, and sent the 'invitation' out late. James Andrew – How about giving us more notice next time!!!
Kangkong - Everyone's favourite vegetable!
La la la la la la.. La la la la la...
Mantis prawn fried with nestum. Simply delicious
